Yes, I agree. I don't know what's happening though it sounds like spam to me. I know that's possible on a Ning but someone needs to control it, please!

Hello I am excited to become a member of teachers who teach great books. I have been teaching children how to read independently for ten years through my own tutoring company. I am so excited to be among so many great minds.

Will Hobbs' CROSSING THE WIRE, which would appeal to kids 10up, is an engrossing story about a young boy who is trying to cross the border to get work in the US.

Thanks Karen for the website. I am almost finished reading the novel to the kids...they have enjoyed it greatly. It's great to see the kids make connections between immigration in the early 1900s and the 21st century. Most of my students are Mexican or Mexican-American and they appreciate Moon Shadow's struggles and triumphs as an immigrant. I recommend it to upper grade teachers!

Hope this helps!/slcusd/dwing12.html">Chapter 12.

I cannot think of a movie, but do you have any great activites to go with Dragonwings? I have been trying to incorperate more projects with my books and that is a good one.

I'm reading Dragonwings by Laurence Yep to my students. I'm bummed that it's not a movie because I like showing the movie after I read the book because I have them write compare/contrast essays. Does anyone know of a PG-rated movie that deals with early 20th century Chinese immigrants? Or anything else that you think would go well with Dragonwings? Thanks.
